Jackson Hole is one of the best basecamps in the West for wildlife watching. Grand Teton National Park starts just north of town, Yellowstone is close enough for a full-day tour, and the valley itself is part of a major migration corridor.
Go early or late
Wildlife viewing is best around sunrise and the last light of the day. Animals move more in cooler temperatures, traffic is lighter, and the low sun makes the Tetons look spectacular behind the valley floor.
Start with Grand Teton National Park
Moose-Wilson Road, Antelope Flats, Oxbow Bend, and the northern park roads are classic viewing areas. Depending on the season, guests may see moose, elk, bison, pronghorn, bald eagles, foxes, and bears.
Book a guide for the first day
A guided wildlife tour is often worth doing early in the trip. Local guides know recent movement patterns, safe viewing distances, and the best windows for each area. After that, you can revisit favorite locations on your own schedule.
